Chevrolet Commits To NTT INDYCAR Series

Chevrolet has one of the longest and most storied racing lineages of any automaker in the world. And ask anyone about the Indy 500, and they’ll tell you that it is one of the most popular racing events in the world. The co-founder of Chevrolet, Louis Chevrolet, raced in the inaugural Indy 500 in 1911, and his brothers, Arthur (also a co-founder of Chevy) and Gaston, both raced in the event, with Gaston winning in 1920.  

A Deal That Sees Chevrolet Making More History with IndyCar 

Recently, Chevrolet inked a deal with the NTT IndyCar Series that sees the manufacturer developing both engines and chassis for teams that are set to debut in 2028. The new motor will be a 2.4-liter hybrid twin-turbo V6, which is slightly more displacement than the current 2.2-liter engine that makes 735 horsepower.   

IndyCar Is the Top of The American Racing Hill 

IndyCar is the top racing series in America, rivaling Formula One in Europe. While both feature open-wheel racing cars, IndyCar is a different style of racing with a season that includes both oval and road-course tracks. IndyCars can also reach speeds above 240 mph, too, something no other race car can achieve while turning a corner.

The Most Successful Manufacturer in the Series Ever 

As an engine developer, Chevrolet has had some of the best successes in IndyCar. With a truly dominant engine from 1988 to 1993 that saw the manufacturer win six Indy 500s in a row, along with great success in the modern era. Since 2012, the company has racked up a total of nine manufacturer titles, with consecutive wins from 2012-2017, and another six wins at the IndyCar 500 with cars powered by Chevy engines. No manufacturer has had more success in IndyCar as a whole.

Chevrolet supplies engines for some of the top teams in the series, including Team Penske, Arrow McLaren (yes, the super and hypercar manufacturer), A.J. Foyt Enterprises, Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR), PREMA Racing, and Juncos Hollinger Racing.  

How To Watch The 2026 Season 

The 2026 season kicked off on March 1 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida and ends on September 6 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Races are exclusively on Fox or the Fox One streaming app. Check your local listings for specific start times, as some races start at 10 am (such as the Indy 500), while others start at noon, 4 pm, and even 9 pm eastern.
