​​Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday with GM’s Explore250 App​ 

“Baseball, Hot dogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet.” That was the tagline, and pretty much the only lyrics in a jingle Chevrolet ran in the mid-70s, just in time for the country’s bicentennial, or 200th birthday. For better or worse, it was memorable enough to be recalled by many 50 years later. But as we approach the nation’s 250th birthday, General Motors has developed another way to celebrate that may be far more memorable. McFarland Chevrolet is pleased to announce Explore250, a new app that promotes road trips and destinations across the U.S.A. 

General Motors describes Explore250 as “having a park ranger, history buff, and foodie friend in the passenger seat.” The app, now available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, features more than 640 iconic destinations nationwide, including memorable stops such as Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and the Route 66 Museum in Victorville, California.

You can organize trips based on themes and gather digital “stamps” during your journey. It’s like a road-trip passport for the entire family to explore sites that showcase our nation’s history.  Mountains, seacoasts, forests, deserts, the world’s largest lakes, the US has it all, and every American owes it to themselves to experience as much of it as they can. In addition to the destinations, there is the sheer enjoyment of getting there.  GM points to a few can’t-miss drives as an example: 

• Overseas Highway, Florida Keys – 42 bridges, endless turquoise water, and one unforgettable drive. 

• Route 66, Southwest to Midwest – Americana in its purest form 

• US-2 Across the Upper Peninsula – Witness the beauty of Lake Michigan. 

• I-90 Across Montana – Big sky, big mountains, and plenty of reasons to stop and explore.  

• Pacific Coast Highway, California – Ocean cliffs, surf towns, and wine country  

Of course, you don’t need a Chevrolet or any GM vehicle to embark on such trips, but features like the industry-leading Super Cruise system sure can make it more enjoyable.
