The ”Heartbeat of America” is Back

Remember that jingle?
It came at a time when Chevrolet had the widest variety of vehicles available. From Sprints to Suburbans, the Camaro to the Caprice – there was a Chevrolet for everyone, and we wanted to make sure they knew.
Well, that’s the case today as well – and as this country celebrates its 250th anniversary, it was time to bring that beloved catchphrase and jingle back once again.
The jingle began airing in 1986, just when Chevrolet introduced three smaller vehicles to the lineup. The Caprice was the chosen public safety car, and the Corvette was showing its mojo in its fourth generation. People swarmed over the Cavalier and Celebrity, including their new sporty models. Plus, the most dependable pickup trucks in the country were as square as they can get.
Back in the day, you likely heard familiar names sing the lyrics of “Heartbeat.” It was a country, rock, R&B star…you name it! It could’ve been a Billboard Top 200 single, but it was purposefully short to snag your attention and leave you wanting more. It was catchy and delivered a message: Chevrolet was America. You saw it in the imagery that went perfectly with the tune.
By 1993, it was time to retire “Heartbeat.” You received the message. However, you ever forgot it. It lived on YouTube for those who were looking back at a time when Chevrolet ruled the driveways and byways in this country.

And, now, it is back!
The melody may sound the same, but the voices have changed. The Mobile, Alabama-based rock band The Red Clay Strays took over duties on vocals. The band took the spirit of “Heartbeat” and made it its own. The energy was true America – from coast to coast and everywhere in-between. You might hear a little Kentucky there, too!
The Red Clay Strays are a great fit for this new campaign. The band members share Chevrolet’s values of hard work and building community, with a sound that incorporates country, rock, and soul.
If you want more from the Red Clay Strays, check out the new album “Grateful” through your favorite music app or store.
