What Types of Cabs are Available on Chevrolet’s Pickup Trucks?

With four pickup truck lines available across the Chevrolet lineup, you certainly have the power of choice. Not just in powertrain, payload, and towing capacities, but in cab and bed sizes, too!
Chevrolet has always offered a choice in the type of cab you can select for your pickup truck. Extended Cabs appeared on our S-10 pickup truck, dating back to 1983. We’ve offered Crew Cabs on our full-size pickup trucks since 1973. Today, the four-door Crew Cab has become our most popular configuration. But the Regular Cab style has been a mainstay in the pickup truck category.

For over a century, the Regular Cab has been standard on Chevrolet pickup trucks. They’re simple – just two doors and seating for up to three across. All of our historic pickup trucks – including the El Camino and SSR – came in this cab configuration.
In today’s Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD, they are mainly used in the WT trim level. Fleet operators and businesses appreciate the simplicity of a Regular Cab, not only to cut costs, but also to maximize utility. On Silverado 1500 models, you can pair a Regular Cab with either a Standard or Long Bed. You can also upgrade your Regular Cab to an LT trim on Silverado HD models.

Which alternative cab configurations are available on Chevrolet pickup trucks? You can get a Crew Cab on all Colorado, Silverado 1500, Silverado HD, and Silverado EV models. Extended Cabs are also available on Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD.
The Extended Cab was designed to accommodate more passengers or store items that require secure storage. With two primary doors for entry and exit, early Silverado models featured access doors that enabled improved loading of passengers or luggage for longer trips. In the Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD, the Extended Cab has all four doors that open as normal. They still offer the versatility of use for both passengers and cargo. A Standard Bed is paired with an Extended Cab on all models.
The popularity of the Crew Cab stemmed from a need to transport up to six people for work duties. Instead of driving multiple vehicles to a job site, one Crew Cab saved money on fuel and unnecessary uptime.

The Crew Cab serves a different purpose today. Instead of a crew of workers, families have discovered the convenience of a truck that can haul what’s needed along with the entire family. On the Colorado, Silverado 1500, and Silverado EV, the Crew Cab is paired with the Short Bed. The Standard Bed is available on both Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD. You can get a Crew Cab with a Long Bed exclusively on the Silverado HD.
