What To Do With Your Vehicle During Car Care Week

In spring, the weather improves, giving you time to think about where to take your family for a nice weekend getaway to enjoy the new scenery and breathe in the freshness of the world around you. It is also planting season…and baseball season, too! That is why every third week of April is Car Care Week. A reminder to make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape for the warmer seasons ahead.
There is so much that goes into your vehicle. Everything from oil for the engine, fluids for the cooling system, transmission, brakes, and differential, making sure your vehicle starts up every time you go anywhere, and for every other component to work the way you expected them to. What should you do for your vehicle during Car Care Week? The list is long, so let’s go through it.
An oil change is more than just swapping old fluids for new ones and replacing the filter. It is also a check on the health of your vehicle’s most vital organ – the engine. That is why sticking to a regular schedule based on the factory-recommended oil change interval will ensure the longevity of your engine.
Other fluids also have their own inspection and replacement intervals. Everything from the transmission, the brake master cylinder and lines, the cooling system, the transfer case, and the differential(s) has a period of time before it is flushed and replaced with fresh, specified fluids. Your owner’s manual lists the recommended interval for changing these fluids.

Tires keep your vehicle on the road. Regular tire pressure and tread depth checks give you a better indication of their life before replacement. Anything out of specification will shorten your tires’ lifespan.
The regular car battery is also a key component that is susceptible to wear and tear. It’s always a good idea to check the voltage and amps with a testing device to ensure it is in good shape for the next year or so. Keep in mind that our severe winters can affect the battery’s ability to keep your vehicle’s electrical systems and technology tools from working properly.
It is not just internal combustion engine vehicles that need to run at their best. Even with fewer components, electric vehicles still require their own maintenance. Battery packs and other key components should be in good condition, including tires and fluids.
