2026 Chevrolet Suburban

Performance

The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban offers three available engines. The standard engine is the tried-and-true 5.3-liter V8, producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The other available V8 is the venerable 6.2-liter that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Across the entire lineup—including Z71 for the first time—you can also option the uprated Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder turbodiesel that puts out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. All engines utilize a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the two V8s feature Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) and variable valve timing (VVT). Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is optional.

No matter which engine you spec for your 2026 Suburban, they can all tow and haul. Maximum payload ratings range up to 1,750 pounds. You can also tow up to 8,200 pounds. New and enhanced trailering features include Trailer Tire Health, Mobile Trailering App Load Rating Info, Forward Path Indication, Boat Ramp Assist, and Trailer Navigation.

Solid fuel economy is achievable in the 2026 Suburban. The Duramax turbodiesel can return around 27 mpg on the highway, translating into a range of up to 756 miles.

Air Ride Adaptive Suspension is available on the 2026 High Country and Z71, and RST is available for the first time. It offers automatic load-leveling and ride-height adjustments. With Magnetic Ride Control, which is standard on the 2026 Premier and High Country and available on RST and Z71, sensors continually “read” the road 1,000 times per second to adjust the damping rate of the shocks almost instantly.

Exterior

For 2026, each of the Suburban’s six trims—LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country—get their own grille design that makes it easy to identify. The Z71 incorporates skid plates and a high-approach front fascia, while the High Country leans in on a sport-luxury theme, with a sophisticated balance of black and Galvano chrome trim.

Wheel sizes vary, starting from 18 inches all the way up to the High Country and RST’s available 24-inch alloy wheels.

Interior

The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban can accommodate up to nine passengers, with either a bench seat or captain’s chairs for the second row. The third row always seats three occupants.

A new dashboard gives the driver improved confidence through the 11.0-inch driver information center. It is customizable to your specific information needs. The center console offers plenty of storage options and a convenient wireless charging pad.

With all of the seats up, the Suburban has 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. With the third row folded, there are 93.8 cubic feet behind the second row of seats. With both the second and third rows folded flat, this large Chevrolet SUV opens up to have 144.7 cubic feet of total cargo volume.

Technology

The heart of the 2026 Suburban is a 17.7-inch diagonal color infotainment touchscreen. The system features Google Built-in, which incorporates the Google Assistant and lets you use your voice to get directions or interact with other Google apps. With a large display, you can view multiple camera feeds. If you are towing, the Suburban includes a transparent trailer view, rear trailer view, and picture-in-picture side view when buyers opt for the Advanced Trailering System.

Also available on the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban is Super Cruise, one of the first hands-free driver assistance technologies for vehicles. Super Cruise is available on LT, RST, Premier, and High Country trim levels.

Safety

As with all Chevrolet cars, trucks, and SUVs, Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard and features Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, and IntelliBeam auto high beams.

Also featured on the 2026 Suburban are Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Surround Vision, a Head-Up Display, Rear Camera Mirror, Rear Camera Mirror Washer, and Rear Pedestrian Alert.

It is expected that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will award the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban excellent crash-test ratings. With a maximum of 5 stars in all crash tests, the Suburban previously got 4 stars for the front passenger and 5 stars for the driver in a head-on collision. For NHTSA’s side crash ratings, the large Chevy scored 5 stars in their side barrier and pole crash tests. With 3 out of 5 stars in the rollover resistance test, in the event of a “single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario,” the large SUV performed well for its height and length. NHTSA gave it a rollover risk of just 21%.
